Building Agents as an Extension of Active Objects - Application to the Simulation of Economic Models

This paper studies how to extend the concept of active object into a structure of agent. It rst discusses the requirements for autonomous agents that are not covered by simple active objects. We propose then the extension of the single behavior of an active object into a set of behaviors with a meta-behavior scheduling their activities. To make a concrete proposal based on these ideas we describe how we extended a platform of active objects, named Actalk, into a generic multi-agent platform, named DIMA. We discuss how this extension has been implemented. We nally report on the application of DIMA to model economic agent evolution. Cet article etudie une extension du concept d'objets actifs en une structure d'agents au-tonomes. Nous pr esentons d'abord les caract eristiques des agents autonomes qui ne sont pas assur ees par de simples objets actifs. Nous proposons ensuite une extension du comporte-ment simple d'un objet actif en un ensemble de comportements et un m eta-comportement pour superviser leurs interactions. Comme application concr ete de ces id ees, nous d ecrivons l'extension d'une plate-forme d'objets actifs (appel ee Actalk), en une plate-forme multi-agents g en erique (appel ee DIMA). Nous discutons de l'impl ementation de cette extension. Finalement, nous rapportons des exp erimentations de DIMA sur la simulation d'agents economiques.
